Hi all, I've been lurking around for a while but haven't had much time to devote to diving due to my work schedule lately. Luckily enough, it's entirely possible that won't be a problem much longer considering the current economy!!
With free time in mind I started looking around and found the following week long live aboard Dec. 5th through the 12th...
Nekton Dive Cruise to Puerto Rico/USVI
I've dove with Nekton on this particular boat before (they now have two boats) and it's a very nice setup. The salon is spacious (for a boat) and the dive deck is awesome. Even as big as the boat is we still did drift dives straight from the dive deck. Additionally, each stateroom has its own bathroom with shower. There's even a camera table just up from the dive deck with air for blowing the water off your housing before going below. Warm towels and snacks are waiting when you come up from your dive.
IIRC I did 18 dives during the Bahamas trip, which, is a bit light for me for a week long trip but with live aboards you do have to spend some time getting from place to place.
The trip is $1199 which is all inclusive except for tips and airfare. Non-stop airfare from Houston to San Juan via Continental is only $377. The trip is slightly different from what's on the website as they have combined trips since the Pilot is undergoing refit. Instead of leaving from Fajadora it leaves from Mayaguez. Unfortunately for people like me who get motion sickness this is a 3 hour drive, but, sometimes you gotta take one for the team.
This is not an international trip and if you're a citizen arriving from the U.S. you don't even need anything more than your ID. If you are coming through another country, however, you will need proof of citizenship (ie passport, birth certificate, first born sacrifice, etc.).
I talked to Dave at Nekton and they have 15 spots open on this trip which means it's less than half full right now.
I'm about 100% sure that I'm going to make this trip and I may have 1 or 2 others with me.
-Bill.
